How to use this guide

Creating websites, designing their look and feel, and authoring website content is generally a multi-departmental effort. This guide is therefore organized by chapters that are each designed for a different audience:

• Authoring Website Content with WCM is intended for the staff and volunteers who author content for your organization's websites.
• Managing Websites with WCM is intended for the staff who plan the overall design and content structure of your websites, and who manage the ongoing content authoring workflow.
• Implementing WCM is intended for the staff or outside consultants who administer iMIS and your web servers, and who perform ASP.NET development to extend the basic features of your Web Content Management environment.

Two additional chapters provide useful reference and conceptual information:

• WCM Fields, provides a glossary-style reference that defines the non-obvious aspects of fields that you will encounter in the various WCM tools and windows. Fields whose purpose and use should be easily understood by the intended audience are not described.
• Glossary of WCM Terms and Concepts explains the basic terminology and concepts of WCM.

How to find the information you need

We recognize that most people who work with tools like WCM tend to jump into exploring the product and trying to make it work. When you refer to the product documentation, it's because you're stuck and have a specific question you want answered. This guide is designed to support this style of learning about WCM.

A few simple tips should help you find what you need when you are using this guide to explore the product:

• The Search tab of the online iMIS Helpsite can help you find relevant topics much faster than thumbing through a printed version of the guide. Enter a specific field name or some keywords to search the content. Searching is a convenient way to look up the meaning of italicized terms used throughout this guide.
• When you find that something in this guide seems hard to understand, look at the Other information you might need links at the end of the section that you're reading. These closely related topics contain additional details to fully understand the feature that you are using.
• When you don't know where to start to find answers, start at the top! Each of the three main chapters begins with a Getting started section to help you quickly determine whether that chapter has the information that you're looking for. A list points you to the specific topic you need.
• If you're looking for information about a specific window or field in the product, look in the WCM Fields chapter for a Fields: topic with a name that matches the type of WCM object you're working with, such as content records or navigation items or tags or web parts. The field descriptions in each of these topics are listed in alphabetical order, like terms in a glossary.
